In-Store Travel Advisors
Our Finchley Central and East Finchley branches operate private, fully-equipped consulting suites staffed by certified travel medicine pharmacists.
Planning a trip abroad can feel overwhelming when it comes to health. You want honest advice for your specific itinerary, not a generic list printed off the internet.
At our travel clinic in Finchley, one of our GPhC-registered pharmacists reviews your exact destinations, travel dates, and health history to build a plan that fits you. Both the Finchley Central and East Finchley branches offer this service, with same-week appointments available.
Whether you are heading to rural India, the Tanzanian highlands, or the Amazon, the vaccines and medications you need depend on where exactly you are going, what you are doing there, and how long you are staying.
Your pharmacist creates a personalised travel plan based on your health, including vaccines, antimalarials, and key precautions.

Travellers heading to Kenya, Tanzania, Ghana, Nigeria, Uganda, or Ethiopia face real risks including malaria, typhoid, hepatitis A, and rabies from animal contact. We advise patients based on which regions they are visiting, not just the country name.
Thailand, India, Vietnam, Indonesia, and the Philippines all carry risks that vary by region and season. These include Japanese Encephalitis in rural areas, typhoid, hepatitis A and B, rabies, and malaria depending on your specific route and accommodation type.
Brazil and Peru are among the most visited South American destinations, but health requirements differ significantly by region. Jungle areas carry malaria risk, typhoid protection is widely recommended, and Andean routes to Machu Picchu or Bolivia can bring serious altitude sickness for unprepared travellers.
Travellers to Saudi Arabia require a Meningitis ACWY certificate for entry during Hajj and Umrah. Hepatitis A and typhoid are also recommended for many Middle Eastern destinations. We provide the full vaccination and certification service at both Finchley branches for pilgrims in our local community.
Popular destinations including Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, Cuba, Costa Rica, and Belize require protection against hepatitis A and typhoid. Mosquito-borne illnesses including dengue fever are a genuine risk in parts of the region, so bite prevention advice is an important part of every consultation.
Destinations such as Nepal (Everest Base Camp), Peru (Machu Picchu), Bolivia (La Paz), and Tanzania (Kilimanjaro) can bring serious altitude sickness at elevations above 2,500 metres. Diamox (acetazolamide) may be prescribed after a consultation, and we provide full advice on acclimatisation alongside any medication.
Some vaccines are legally required for entry into certain countries. Yellow Fever vaccination is the most common example, needed for entry into parts of sub-Saharan Africa and South America. Without the certificate, you may be refused entry at the border.
Recommended vaccines are different. They are not required by law but are strongly advised based on the health risks at your destination. Typhoid, hepatitis A, and rabies fall into this category for many destinations.
Both matter. The pharmacist at our Finchley travel clinic will clearly explain which vaccines apply to your trip and why, so you can make an informed decision before you travel.

Both branches are staffed by GPhC-registered pharmacists trained in travel medicine. You receive clinical advice from a qualified professional, not a booking clerk reading off a screen.
Finchley Central on Ballards Lane and East Finchley on High Road both offer the full travel clinic service. Same-week appointments available at both sites, Monday to Saturday.
Antimalarials, altitude sickness medication, and period delay tablets can all be prescribed at the pharmacy. You do not need to visit your GP first or wait for a referral.
The East Finchley branch has been part of the local community since 1984. Patients trust us because we have been here long enough to earn it, not just because we say so.
Every vaccine price is published on this page. No consultation surcharges added at checkout, no unexpected charges when you arrive. What you see is what you pay.
We provide the vaccine and the required Saudi Ministry of Health certificate in one visit. This is a specialist service not available at every local pharmacy, and it matters to a significant part of the Finchley community.

Louise CowanI visited this pharmacy to obtain a medication that is currently in national short supply. They assured me it was in stock with their supplier & would be ordered for next-day delivery and securely stored, but I would need to wait five minutes upon arrival while they prepared it. That was no problem for me, and I even explained that if there were any issues, they should call me, and I’d ask my GP to amend the prescription. A few days later, I went to collect the medication, only to be told they didn’t have it. There was no explanation—just a curt “no, we don’t have it.” I was puzzled and mentioned that the pharmacist had said it would be kept in a safe place. The dispenser then mocked me, saying, “we don’t have it; we know where we keep the meds,” with a sarcastic tone. Still, no explanation was given about what had happened. Eventually, the pharmacist said they could order it since it was in stock, and I could collect it the next day. They promised to call me when it arrived. Which they did and all was ok. The experience was disorganised and unnecessarily rude. There was no need for the sarcasm; a polite explanation and a clear solution would have sufficed. I mentioned this to a local friend who shared similar sentiments and now chooses to walk five minutes further to another pharmacy to avoid dealing with this one.
Yes. At Cootes Pharmacy, our pharmacists can administer travel vaccines and prescribe antimalarials and other travel medications without a GP referral. You book directly with us and the consultation is carried out by a qualified pharmacist.
We recommend booking ahead to secure your preferred appointment time, particularly if you need vaccines that require multiple doses. Same-week appointments are available at both branches, but availability can be limited at short notice.
Yes, in most cases. The pharmacist will review which vaccines can be given together and which need to be spaced apart based on clinical guidance. We plan this during your consultation so your protection is timed correctly.
Some vaccines are safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding, others are not. The pharmacist will review your situation and advise which vaccines are appropriate for you. If you are pregnant, please mention this when booking so enough time can be set aside for your consultation.
The pharmacist will prioritise the vaccines most important for your specific destinations and travel style. You are never pressured to take every vaccine on a list. A clear explanation of risk levels is given so you can make an informed decision based on your circumstances.
We are open six days a week at both branches. Walk in, call ahead, or book a service online.
